In this epoch circa Donald Trump, xenophobic purveyor of The Wall and general misanthropy, an artist like M.I.A. couldn’t be more timely.

Her song Paper Planes has a deep water subtext concerning the unfair stereotyping of illegal migrants.

In her song, M.I.A.’s character is an artificer of counterfeit passports, hence the artful euphemism paper planes

Per her character, M.I.A. skewers the idea that refugees are bombarding the west in an effort to pillage by the light of gunfire and with the aid of neo child soldiers.

I definitely think Paper Planes is worthy of a fresh listen for anyone interested in The Wall from the prophetic point of view of a person of color: M. I. A.
